Cold and Flu Season

Cold and Flu season is upon us! Ever wonder what the difference between a cold and having the flu is? Colds usually last between 3-7 days. Symptoms: sneezing, stuffy nose, and sore throat. Complications are milder and are mainly upper respiratory, sinus, ear aches or bronchitis. The flu on the other hand lasts between 5-14 days. Symptoms are typically stronger: body aches, chest pain, fever, complications can be more severe such as pneumonia.

Here are some tips to help beat cold/flu season quickly:

1. Washing hands frequently lasting at least 20 seconds. Gargling salt water also helps wash viruses from the throat and stomach.

2. Teas: Ginger – (if you feel cold) slice ginger root into thin slices, place 2 slices into boiling water and sip. Peppermint – (if you feel warm) you can drink it at room temperature or fresh mint leaves in hot water and sip (for sore throat and to clear sinuses).

3. GSE – grapefruit seed tablets or Olive Leaf Capsules, both are natural antiviral, antibacterial. Always take with food.

4. Bath: Epsom salt (1 cup) with a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus essential oil (10-15 minutes only).

5. Eucalyptus for travel - When traveling put this oil on a small cloth in a baggie, then inhale on and off throughout your flight, it has antiviral and antibacterial properties.

And of course don’t forget to keep up with regular chiropractic care; chiropractic treatments help facilitate lymphatic drainage while boosting the immune function.

Chiropractic Care after a Car Accident

When it comes to car accidents, paramedics are often the first health care professionals who attend to your needs. Their job is to assess whether you should be rushed to the hospital for immediate medical treatment or deal with any life-threatening injuries right on the scene. Fractures, concussions, lacerations and other potential internal injuries will necessitate your escorted trip to the hospital. What if the paramedics tell you that you are not injured enough to go to the hospital, but you still don’t feel quite right? In this issue of Wellness Express we look at frequent problems your musculoskeletal system often encounters after a car accident. Common Injuries Some people encounter pain and tension right away. For others, the symptoms may get worse over time. Whether the impact occurs from the front or the rear, your neck is usually the most vulnerable area of your body in any motor vehicle accident. Car collisions involve rapid changes in acceleration and deceleration.
