Watch Out For the Lawnmower

Summer is when lawnmowers come out weekly.  It is also the time of the year when there are serious accidents to kids because of lawnmowers.  In 2007, according to the Consumer Product safety Commission 210,000  people - 16,200 of the children - were treated in doctors' offices, clinics and emergency rooms for lawnmower-related accidents.  The tragedy is that most of these accidents to children could have been prevented if the adults operating the machines had been more careful or just used common sense procedures.

Many of the new lawnmowers certain safety features, but still won't help if a child runs in front of the mower, or while sitting in front of an adult on a riding mower, falls off and gets his foot caught in the blade.  Here are some safety precautions:

- Keep children out of the lawn area while mowing
- If a child enters that area TURN off the machine immediately
- Learn how to turn off the machine quickly and always leave all the safety features-guards, shields,   deflectors and warning decals-on the mower
- Clear the mowing areas of small rocks and twigs before mowing as these can become dangerous projectiles  with a moving mower and can easily pierce the eye or cause disfigurement if they hit the face
- Never carry a child on a riding mower.  It may seem like fun but consider the mower a dangerous machine and make it off limits to children
- Never allow children to operate the machine and only mature teens with adult supervision should operate a lawnmower
- Do not mow in reverse and always look behind you to make sure there is no child there
- Be careful when approaching blind corners, shrubs and trees, they could block your view of a child
- Wear sturdy shoes to prevent slipping and protective gear

  1. Lawnmowers may not be the most fun thing to spend your money on, but when it comes time to buy one you want one that is going to last. A person only buys a few lawnmowers in their life, so it makes sense to get a good quality one. If the mower also makes the job easier, then that is a big plus.Husqvarna 7021P Lawn Mower Review

Cold and Flu Season

Cold and Flu season is upon us! Ever wonder what the difference between a cold and having the flu is? Colds usually last between 3-7 days. Symptoms: sneezing, stuffy nose, and sore throat. Complications are milder and are mainly upper respiratory, sinus, ear aches or bronchitis. The flu on the other hand lasts between 5-14 days. Symptoms are typically stronger: body aches, chest pain, fever, complications can be more severe such as pneumonia. Here are some tips to help beat cold/flu season quickly: 1. Washing hands frequently lasting at least 20 seconds. Gargling salt water also helps wash viruses from the throat and stomach. 2. Teas: Ginger – (if you feel cold) slice ginger root into thin slices, place 2 slices into boiling water and sip. Peppermint – (if you feel warm) you can drink it at room temperature or fresh mint leaves in hot water and sip (for sore throat and to clear sinuses). 3. GSE – grapefruit seed tablets or Olive Leaf Capsules, both are natural antiviral, antibacter...
